Experience in Lieu of Pay: Some in your agencies may believe that internships and other work experiences are all about learning and should not be compensated for ideological or practical reasons. |
Workforce agencies serve as a model for the employers and the workers they support. Implementing paid experiences internally underscores the value the organization places on the workers themselves. |
Potential Fall-Out: Adding a requirement for placing workers in “springboard jobs” may cause operational, political or partner fallout. |
We need to follow the data and take a rigorous look at which programs are putting people on a path toward quality jobs and which ones aren’t and make hard decisions based on what we see. |
Outside the Budget: Funding “springboard” backbone or intermediary work is not in the budget for our agency. |
We will either make adjustments to program budgets to provide these services or work with national philanthropic partners to bring in support to make this happen. |
